Letters from the Pastor

A Note From the Pastor                    March 7, 2010
It seems that we have survived another New England winter! With Spring just around the corner, the sun has been shining for us lately and we have not had the difficult weather that out neighbors to the south have had.
Back home, we have a saying that is heard often, "Make hay while the sun shines."  It is just an encouragement to get busy and get the work dones in the days when we are able to do it.
Now is the time that we need to live with an urgency to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with our neighbors here in the Northeast Kingdom.  As the weather gets warmer and we get more days of sunshine, I hope that you will join me in getting out and reaching our area.
The first thing that we must do, always before anything else, is to make prayer a passion and a permanent passion of our lives.  Pray for our own spiritual growth, pray for our neighbors that they will see the joyful love of Jesus Christ and come to know Him as thier Savior, pray for our towns that we will find openings and opportunities to reach people for Jesus.
Prayer walking is a wonderful way to reach others for Jesus.  While it may sound like all we do is go out and walk around our area praying for the people in the houses, it is so much more.  Prayer walking includes what Paul described as prayer without ceasing.  We pray when we are in the post office for others we see, we pray when we are in the restaurants for the others eating there, we pray while we shop at thr grocery stroe for the other people who are shopping there and for the employees there to serve us.
We will talk more about prayer tonight at out newly restarted prayer and praise time. Let's get beyond praying for kidneys and livers, and begin to pray for people's hearts, that they may be turned to Jesus and have everlasting life.
When Jesus told us that we would be His witnesses where we lived, He ment it.  We will either be a witness for Him or a witness against Him.  There is no middle ground.  Either we are for HIm and live our lives that way, or we will be witnessing against Him!
Won't you join me in reaching the people for Jesus?
                    Blessings,
                    Brother Hershel

Greetings!                                          July 27, 2009
Excitement!  That sums up my feelings as I get packed and loaded in Sunapee and ready to move to my new church and my new home in Lyndon Center, Vermont.

Thank you giving me the wonderful opportunity to come and serve our Lord Jesus with you at Lyndon Center Baptist Church.  I look forward to experiencing what God has in store for us as He reaches our area for His Heavenly Kingdom
Sunday's Service
We begin our new era on Sunday morning with excitement and confidence?  Why do I look forward to this pastorate with so much enthusiasm?  Come hear what "A Companionship with Christ" offers each of us.  We can be bold and courageous as we look forward to what God is going to do through us.  10:15 a.m.
Pastor Installation
Our pastor installation service is set for Sunday, Aug 9, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.  Please plan to be in attendance as we commit to work together for God's glory through the ministry here at Lyndon Center.  Dr. Terry Dorsett, associational director of missions for the Green Mountain Baptist Association, will deliver the challenge message to our church and your pastor.  A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
August Sermon Series
The New Testament teaches us that we should know how to answer each person with grace and seasoned with salt.  Over the rest of the month, our sermons will give some answers that we can use to answer the unbelievers around us.  Bring something to take notes on as we look at "Why I believe in God," "Why I believe in Jesus Christ" and "Why I believe in the Bible."  People will come up with tough questions, and we can have the ready answers that we can deliver in love and grace.
Final thought
Let's get in on what God is up to in Lyndon Center, the Northeast Kingdom, and Vermont
May God bless you richly,

Hershel Strickland
