Meet the Pastor

Pastor Hershal Strickland

A native of Texas, Pastor Strickland came to New Hampshire in March 2005 after serving as headmaster of a Baptist school and English pastor of a church in American Samoa, an island nation in the South Pacific. Pastor Strickland is the former pastor of Lake Sunapee Baptist Church, where he served for 2 1/2 years before becoming the pastoral minister at the three Newport Nursing homes in Newport, NH and teaching a midweek Bible Study.

Pastor Strickland has a heart for helping people of New England to come to know and to love the Lord. In May 2009, Pastor Strickland was commissioned with the North American Mission Board, which is the domestic mission's agency of the Southern Baptist Convention. It exists to assist Southern Baptists in thier task of fulfilling the Great Commission in the United States, Canada, and their territories through a national strategy for sharing Christ, starting churches, and sending missionaries.

For most of his career, he was a teacher, coach, and school administrator in Texas and Arkansas. He has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Henderson State University, a Masters in Pyschology and Counseling from East Texas State University-Texarkana. Currently Pastor Strickland is working toward a Doctorate in Pastoral Ministries at Masters Divinity School.

Pastor Strickland comes with a particular burden for young people who so desperately need to hear the message of salvation offered through Jesus Christ.
